PLUS add 25 hours labour at $200 per hour
customer with a 9 year old Audi Q7 TDi (with 304k km) filled diesel tank with Ad-blue and drove it less than 100 metres
Audi service manuals (ElsaPro) says to replace the lot
ouch!

Ouch. How much to drain the tank, refill, and hope? Did it drive less than $100 meters because the engine stopped running, or did they realize their mistake?

engine stopped running

Hmm, that makes doing what’s cheap and seeing what happens sound less promising. Even if the components are still good (I’d imagine most of them would be), it would still be a ton of labor to take things apart drain and clean, and I’m sure at least something really does need to be swapped.

not sure i f you can clean it thoroughly enough.
better to set it alight and collect insurance

AUS$26,350 = GBP£14,350.
That’s the upper value of a used 2009-10 Q7 here.
With labour. @ 25xAUD$200 = AUD$5,000 = GBP£17,071.
Hell, that’ll get you a 2013 Q7, 3.0TDi S Line Plus Tiptronic Quattro
With just over half of the miles/kilometres on the clock.

That’s good going, that’s the rock bottom of a 2009 Q7 here .
Surely if similar cars are half the price of the work needed doing to fix it, the insurance would just right it off.

How did that even happen? A family friend of ours once filled his brand new diesel Mercedes with petrol. .. but ad blue ... d id they miss the bright blue cap right next to the filler?
Also $ 669.76 is one expensive “HOSE”.
![]() 02/26/2019 at 03:31 |

how did it happen? no idea.
![]() 02/26/2019 at 03:39 |

i expect it will be towed away, never to be seen by us again.
but you just never know with some people

Best would be to get it written off, buy the similar age vehicle for less, buy back from the insurance the write off and part it out and scrap the rest.

Surely the owners would have to claim that under their insurance...
Cause that ain’t an economic repair.
Also...
How. The. Fornicate. Does. One. Do. That. You know...the AdBlue thing.

i genuinely have no idea how they managed it.
first i knew of the vehicle was when the tech handed me the repair order, and said quote these parts.

I do. They attempted to refuel at a dedicated truck stop....

there are some nearby, so it could well be correct.

Why would it need a new radiator though, and a new module ?
![]() 02/26/2019 at 06:26 |
|
module is inside the fuel tank (might be a lift pump)
radiator will actually be only a fuel cooler (typical Germans over engineering everything)

Gadamn!

ooh yeah!
gotta be happy with the result
![]() 02/26/2019 at 09:29 |

Why in hell is the fuel filter more expensive than a fuel pump?
![]() 02/26/2019 at 09:55 |

The second most costly mistake in the history of VW Diesels.
You can’t spell Audi without “AUD” :D

$1000 fuel filter?!?!?
$3100 pump!?!?!
Holy shit that pump costs more than all 3 of my vehicles combined.

And here I thought that was the price quote for a new headlight bulb.

I am not 100% sure on how coverage would play out on that. It isn’t really collision or comprehensive.

A Ford truck shop did this to my brothers F250 Super Duty.
There is these things called lube techs and apprentices. They fuck up. A lot.

I believe it, I just hit a deer with my Audi, $9k-ish for headlight, hood, bumper, fender, 2 door skins.
![]() 02/26/2019 at 15:41 |

Fuel filter will be the complete housing
![]() 02/26/2019 at 15:43 |

There’s more than one pump in the system
The main pump is line one on the quote
![]() 02/26/2019 at 16:00 |

Um, mine is too.
It cost me $15....

I’d have to check my policy but I reckon that this sort of thing would be covered as accidental damage...of course as an at- fault claim.
![]() 02/26/2019 at 17:00 |

Yeah, again I’m not sure. I don’t do and have never really done 1st party auto. Seems like it would be the scenario on how the shit got in your tank rather than what happens once in there.

LOL
german engineering tax

customer advised us today it will be towed away to be scrapped

here’s a Vehicle Service Report for a Q5 for an EGR cooler failure
12 hours labour req to repair
this is why i dislike VAG products

That's what happens when you piss in an Audi.

needs to happen more often honestly
:)
